About Andrew
Andrew is a lifelong Tidworth resident and proud to have served the community throughout his life. He leads the Connolly family business established in Tidworth in 1961, which today operates three SPAR stores serving local communities. Andrew has over 28 years’ experience as a Tidworth Town Councillor, including six years as Chairman. He has also served as a Kennet District Councillor, Chair of Governors at Castledown School, Director of Castledown FM, and a Wiltshire Council business mentor for young people. He was honoured with the Wiltshire Life Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contribution to the County of Wiltshire. Andrew is a true Tidworthian, having been born in the town; educated at both Clarendon Infants, Clarendon Primary and Tidworth Down Secondary Modern School for Boys, later to be known as Castledown. He has lived in Tidworth all his life and is proud to call it home. Andrew’s parents, Malcolm and Doris, started the family’s Tidworth retail business in 1961. When they retired in 1990, Andrew continued to build the business, which today operates three SPAR convenience stores. His daughters, Susan and Sarah continue to drive the business forward into three generations. The Connolly family business has now been serving the local community for more than 65 years. Community service has always been central to Andrew’s life. He has served as Section Officer with Wiltshire Constabulary, Chair of Governors at Castledown School, Chairman of Tidworth Chamber of Commerce, a business mentor with Wiltshire Council supporting disadvantaged and underprivileged young people and as an elected member of Kennet District Council representing Tidworth and South Ludgershall, where he also served as Chairman of the Planning Policy Committee. Andrew previously served on Tidworth Town Council for over 28 years, including six years as Chairman, and is honoured to once again represent the residents of Tidworth. He has also been a Director of Castledown FM Community Radio for more than a decade, helping to support local broadcasting and community engagement. Andrew’s dedication to public service and community life was recognised when he received the prestigious Wiltshire Life Lifetime Achievement Award. The award honours individuals whose lifelong commitment has made a lasting and significant contribution to the communities and wellbeing of Wiltshire. As a Town Councillor, Andrew is committed to listening to residents, protecting the interests of the town, supporting local organisations, and helping Tidworth continue to develop as a vibrant, thriving and welcoming community for everyone. Away from business and council duties, Andrew enjoys travelling, particularly to India and Nepal, has a keen interest in post-World War II British Japanese reconciliation and is a passionate lifelong supporter of Portsmouth Football Club.
