VJ Day 15th August 2025 - 80th Anniversary
Victory over Japan (VJ) Day, on Friday 15th August, marks the date when Japan surrendered to the Allied Forces, bringing an end to the Second World War after nearly six years of conflict.
On the 80th anniversary, around 100 people gathered at the Civic Centre on Wylye Road, Tidworth, to commemorate the occasion.
Before the event, children were invited to create artwork to mark the end of the war, with honoured guest, Deputy Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Michael Hodges, selecting the winners ahead of the ceremony.
Ahead of the beacon lighting, the Mayor of Tidworth Town Council, Councillor Carole Webb, spoke about the importance of VJ Day and paid tribute to the soldiers who served and sacrificed.
A special thank you to the Wiltshire Caledonian Pipes & Drums for their moving performance, to Deputy Lieutenant Michael Hodges for joining us and lighting the beacon, and to the community for coming together to mark this important day of remembrance with dignity and respect as we honoured those who served and sacrificed.

Congratulations to our picture competition winners Max and Mollie!
Deputy Lord Lieutenant Mr Michael Hodges had the extremely daunting task of choosing between all of the wonderful entries we received. Mayor Carole Webb met our wonderful artists to present their prizes.
Thank you again to everyone for taking part, we loved each and every picture!
