VE Day 2025 - 80th Anniversary

Tidworth Town Council marked the 80th Anniversary of  VE Day on May 8th, 2025, by joining the UK in lighting beacons and lamps of peace at 9.30pm.

The commemoration of the day was truly special, and we extend our sincere gratitude to those who came to mark this important occasion.
A particular thank you goes to the following individuals and groups who generously contributed their time and displays, making the day so memorable:
* Mr T Smykowski for his impressive 1952 Willis Jeep, rocket launcher, and other fascinating weaponry and memorabilia.
* Mr M Rider for showcasing his remarkable collection of British and German WW2 weapons.
* The Hopkins family for sharing their great-great-great-grandfather’s poignant medals and photographs.
* Castledown FM for providing the authentic 1940s music and engaging quiz.
* The Poppy Appeal and RBL Tidworth for their invaluable support of our event.
* The children of Wellington Eagles for their incredible homemade bunting, stretching an outstanding 10 meters!
* The children of Zouch Academy for their thoughtful letters, artwork, and creative writing for 102-year-old WW2 Veteran Mr Alan Mcquillin.
* Maria of Pop-up Sparklz for her wonderful and generously donated balloon columns.
* Ezra’s – Coffee & Dine. for serving delicious fish and chips.
* H’s Ices for being on hand for yummy sweet treat.
* Mr R Gregory for his outstanding and beautifully lit homemade beacon collar.
* Sgt Thomson, Pipe Major of RTR for a truly remarkable performance.
* The many council members and members of the public who volunteered their time to ensure the smooth running of the evening.
