Member, Community Engagement Committee
North Tidworth PO
I moved to Tidworth in 2012 with my husband and two daughters to take over the running of the local Post Office. We settled quickly into life in Tidworth thanks to the warm welcome of the local community and the many community events that Tidworth holds for its local residents. My daughters now go to Wellington Academy and we are all proud to be living in the town with the “most desirable postcode in England”
Born in Coventry, I attended the local grammar school and then worked in a bank in London before taking up my studies at University in Birmingham. I spent summer holidays working and travelling throughout Europe and gained a passion for travelling which has never left me. After I was awarded my BA Hons in English, I worked abroad teaching English as a foreign language and l lived in Italy for several years before meeting my husband and then returning to England. I then completed a post graduate course in education and started work as a teacher.
I have always been very involved in supporting and promoting the interests of the community and from the age of 16 have worked voluntarily for local community groups. Shortly after arriving in Tidworth I volunteered as an advisor at Tidworth Citizens Advice Bureau and also became involved with Tidworth Town council on a voluntary basis. I helped out at community events at first and was then Co-opted onto the town council. Working in the Post office is a wonderful opportunity to meet and get to know many of the local residents. It also a good way of finding out what concerns local residents and getting their ideas about how they would like to see their town develop.
When I was asked to chair the Community Engagement group, I felt very privileged to continue the excellent work that Corby our Deputy Mayor had started. As Chair it is my aim to involve local residents in activities which both showcase the talents of the community and provide the community with worthwhile activities and events where there is something for everyone, irrespective of gender, age, race or cultural background.
